House of Hope recently welcomed a group of people unlike we’ve ever had before—a
film crew and cast!
A new film featuring House of Hope began production in February, and it was nothing
short of amazing. As the film crew moved through the chapel the House of Hope campus
in Orlando, Florida, and the actors and extras took their places, a powerful feeling of
emotion and the presence of God was almost overwhelming. The building that has
hosted so many moments of reflection, revelation and redemption now serves as the set
for a scene in a short new film called “Journey of Hope.”
This project is a longtime dream come true for House of Hope Founder, Sara Trollinger,
and President, Karla Mathis. “This is something we’ve wanted for a long time,” said
Mathis. “It is so moving and such a real depiction of what happens here. I cried when I
watched one of the short clips for the first time.”
Created and produced by Sterling Light Productions, the associate producers of the hit
film “Sound of Freedom,” in concert with Blue Trail Productions, this short film depicts
a troubled teenage boy named Gabe who comes to House of Hope after struggling with
anger and rebellion when his mother reaches out for help after he faces criminal charges
for theft. The film follows Gabe on his transformative journey through the House of
Hope program and into a new life of hope and healing.
While the character of Gabe is not based on one particular individual, he represents all
teens who have and will come through House of Hope—their fears, their anger, their
pain and their journey to hope, healing and restoration through the love of Jesus Christ.
Gabe’s story begins in a place familiar to many teens who arrive at House of Hope—a
place of hurt, anger, and confusion. Yet, a new chapter in his life begins when he steps
onto the House of Hope campus. This heartfelt film captures the essence of his
transformation, engaging the audience in a profoundly personal and moving experience
along the way.
While those who know of the impact of House of Hope, most have never had the
opportunity to witness the day-to-day ministry that occurs when we come alongside
struggling teens. This film gives an unprecedented inside look at what students and their
parents experience in their walk toward hope. “Journey of Hope” allows the viewer to
follow Gabe as he navigates the challenges of healing at chapel services, counseling
sessions, and moments of genuine connection with others.
What sets this film apart is that it’s not just about Gabe; it reflects the comprehensive
approach House of Hope takes in healing the individual and the family unit. Even more,
this film does an impeccable job of highlighting House of Hope’s core belief in the
healing power of Jesus Christ.
This powerful film was funded by a generous donor who believes in the mission of
House of Hope. The dedication of the production crew, actors, and staff to portraying
Gabe’s story with authenticity and compassion is evident in every frame of the film. We
are hopeful that this will be a powerful tool for raising awareness about the vital work at
House of Hope.
Our goal is to raise awareness among parents about the supportive and nurturing
environment their children will experience, offering hope and reassurance during a
tumultuous time. In doing so, we also hope to reach those interested in starting a House
of Hope affiliate location.
The film is currently in editing and will air for the first time as a sneak preview at House
of Hope’s Annual ‘Celebrating Hope’ Dinner on April 25 in Orlando before its official
premiere in May.
One thing is clear: this is more than just a film—it’s a call to action. More importantly,
it’s a reminder that no matter how desperate a situation may be, there is always a path
to healing and redemption through Jesus, and we are never truly alone in this life when
we have Him.
